Hi, I'm Karen! I'm a Fractional COO and Certified Online Business Manager for Established Wellness Entrepreneurs.
My Mission... I absolutely hate it when I see health-minded entrepreneurs fall short of their missions to improve the health and wellbeing of the clients and communities they serve NOT because they aren't amazing at what they do, but because they can't keep up with the growth of their business or they're drowning in chaos and disorganized systems. Although they unselfishly dedicate themselves to bettering others' lives, they stretch themselves too thin and no longer have the time or energy to accomplish the proactive, creative work that only they can carry out in their businesses. Sometimes they even put their own health at risk. Everyone loses when that happens.
My mission is to empower wellness professionals by providing organizational leadership and creating optimal, sustainable projects, systems and teams so they can achieve their vision of improving the health and wellness of the communities they serve.
My Story... I am a seasoned public health professional with 25+ years of managerial experience in both non-profit and for-profit arenas. Before opening my own business, I worked for over a decade empowering multicultural communities around women's health, cancer prevention, and tobacco-free living. I have expertise in project management, team leadership, financial management, systems automation, SOP documentation, metrics management, and more. Passion areas of mine include health equity as well as integrative health approaches. I am interested in supporting businesses that wish to create environments where all can thrive.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Psychology from Yale University and a Master of Public Health in Behavioral Health Sciences (with a specialty in International Health) from the University of California, Berkeley. I am certified through the International Association of Online Business Managers (IAOBM) and am completing additional Digital COO certification with Sharon Hunt. In the for-profit arena, my clients have included racial and health equity champions, health coaches, mental health professionals, organizational consultants, leadership speakers, and more. And I currently serve as the Director of Projects and Operations at the Kahakulei Institute. Past positions in health non-profits include Program Director at Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Leadership (APPEAL) and Program Coordinator at the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO).
I have a passion for community leadership and have served in numerous leadership roles in both public health and holistic health arenas. I served as a Past Chair and Treasurer of the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and on the leadership board of the San Ramon Chapter of the Holistic Chamber of Commerce. I also founded and led the East Bay Area Chapter of the Holistic Moms Network.
My core values are... Leadership, Proactivity, Integrity, Collaboration, Excellence, and Kindness.
Just for fun... When I'm not helping entrepreneurs share their talents with the world, I can usually be found watching Korean dramas or listening to the musical group BTS, hiking in the Briones, or attending thrash metal concerts with my guitar-playing teenage son. My family is my ultimate "Why."
